Parent Survey!

Dear Parent:

One of the factors that contributes to the success of Harmony Public Schools is our relationship with our students' parents. While we may instruct your children during the day, their intellectual, social and emotional growth continues under your roof. As such, you play a critical role in their success here at Harmony. In an effort build stronger parent/school partnerships, we encourage you to complete this brief survey to help us gauge the effectiveness of our campus' level of communication with you. We ask that if you have children that attend more than one of our campuses, please complete a survey for each campus they attend. Please complete the survey no later than October 28, 2014 .

Important Health Advisory!

Dear Harmony Family,

We are writing you today to share an update on our response to the Ebola diagnoses that have occurred in the Dallas area.  Recently, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) began identifying and monitoring individuals who may have shared a flight with a healthcare worker who was later diagnosed with the illness. Several local school districts were identified as having students or parents who may have come in contact with the infected individual.

We are pleased to report that none of the students or staff in our district are on the monitoring list.

We are taking proactive measures in all of our schools in DFW and Waco. While some of these measures pertain to the school, some require your assistance, especially in the monitoring of a sick child at home and determining when they are allowed to return to school.  The protocols are as follows:

• We will isolate students who have symptoms of illness such as fever, vomiting, and/or diarrhea and call parents immediately for them to be picked up.

• If a student has fever, they must be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school (this means without the use of fever reducing medication).

• If a student has diarrhea, they must be diarrhea free for 24 hours before returning to school (this means without the use of diarrhea suppressing medication). Diarrhea is 3 or more episodes of loose stools in a 24 hour period.

• A student must not come to school if vomiting 2 or more times in 24 hours. A student should have 1 or 2 meals without vomiting before returning to school.

Thank you in advance for your help in ensuring the health and safety of all our Harmony family members by following the above protocols.

Because the health, safety, and wellbeing of your child is our top priority, we will continue to update you regarding any additional information that you might need regarding your child’s health and safety.  Any important updates concerning this matter will be delivered via the school website and SchoolReach.

If you ever have any concerns that you would like to share please feel free to contact your school principal.

NWEA MAP Assessments

Harmony students at grades K-12 will take tests called Measures of Academic Progress® (MAP®) beginning 2014-15 school year. We give students MAP tests to determine students’ instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year, and from year to year in the areas of English Language Arts and Reading, Mathematics, and Science. Students will take the tests on a computer.

MAP tests are unique in that they adapt to be appropriate for student’s level of learning. As a result, each student has the same opportunity to succeed and maintain a positive attitude toward testing. And with MAP tests, we can administer shorter tests and use less class time while still receiving detailed, accurate information about your child’s growth.

We are truly excited to begin a new era that focuses on every child’s individual growth and achievement. Partnering to help all kids learn, parents and teachers can have a profound positive effect on the lives of our children.
